Inclusive Education at Choithram International
Our school – Choithram International is an IB school. Here we believe in Inclusive education – IE rather than excluding the child from classroom. As a primary measure to initiate the process of helping the students in need, we inform parents about the difficulties their wards face and the area where they need help. We try to get inputs from parents on the troubles the child had been going through and the child’s specific areas of concern. We give them entire idea about the IE and take their consent for the procedure to follow. After formal consent of parents, we assess the child and try to understand his level and area of difficulty. Children are very spontaneous and innocent in nature. We try to keep up the spontaneity and innocence of the child intact during the sessions . We mostly use remediation, behavioral therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy for intervention. We not only provide intervention to children but also help them in overcoming their troubles holistically. We also try to uplift their self confidence during the sessions which might suffer due to learning and several other difficulties which the child might have been undergoing.
The Home Room Tutors are also instructed to mould the study material as per child’s unique needs. So it’s Inclusive in a way involving all parents, teachers, students and SEN coordinator. All accept the child and ultimately it brings positive change in child and helps him to grow.
Not only the learners of pre - primary and primary stages but that of the middle school and the senior section are also provided with the help and support they need. Adolescence is the stage of many emotional upheavals and the school takes it as a priority to lend a helping hand to these young students. Whether it is related to academics or behavior, once the need is felt and sorted out, we arrange for the support which can be provided to them to overcome these difficulties.
Providing support for the child’s specific needs has been a benchmark for the school and we always look forward to bring the child with special needs into the mainstream, so that he/she does not have to suffer in any way due to any inability or isolation.
