A Journey called the Personal Project
The IBMYP personal project, which is an integral part of the MYP curriculum, sees the culmination of a student’s journey through IB Middle Year Programme. A novel concept with a lot to learn, is what we can sum up the Personal Project to be. It was during the process of orientation that the interest in the personal project was generated.
Over time, as the work on the Personal Project started gearing up, the process started gaining momentum in terms of setting challenges and doing actual work on it . After a brief period of engagement with the project and its topic, a profound interest was developed which gave us motivation to work on it and there commenced the hard work on the Personal Project.
My topic, “The Psychological Effects of Gaming” allowed me to conduct research apart from the online research that goes into every task. I created surveys and planned an interview of a psychologist, as well as consulted numerous studies into this area of social psychology. Over the months that I was patiently working towards my goal, I developed many skills which I have come to realize are essential to lead a successful social life.
The Personal Project enhances skills such as communication, thinking and research . It is not only these skills which are important, but the way one employs these in accomplishing tasks, and as I near the imminent end of my project, I now realize why this is one of the core components of the IBMYP curriculum, and how its importance extends to beyond what is taught to us in school, and into
our daily life.
